The transition from traditional film-based imaging to
the fully digital imaging department is posing a pronounced change for the
radiologist’s work situation. New technological developments, such as fast
software, improved image presentation and enhancement, and brighter monitors
have received a good deal of attention as candidates for improved efficiency.
However, surprisingly little attention has been paid to
the potential improvement of the workstation’s ergonomic design as a means to
enhance radiologists comfort and performance.
A truly ergonomic workplace increases the efficiency
and productivity of the radiologist while reducing fatigue, exertion and
musculoskeletal disorders.
Creating a healthy work environment in the reading
room, enhances the workflow and facilitates the total utilisation of all
clinical benefits with digital imaging.
